Kapp Album Discography, Part 11
ML/MS-7500 Kapp Medallion Series (1960-1962)
By David Edwards, Patrice Eyries, Mike Callahan, Randy Watts, Vince Miller and Tim Neely
Last update: March 15, 2013

The Kapp Medallion series was keeping with the practice of many labels to issue a "percussion series" with fold open covers and a more expensive look. Although many of the initial albums were indeed percussion/brass oriented, the series did not remain strictly for percussion. Later releases included vocals, even folk-type vocals.

The first Kapp Medallion label was black with silver print, with "MEDALLION" curving around the top edge of the label, flanked by two "blue ribbon"-type medallions. Curving around the bottom of the label was "A product of Kapp Records" and "Manufactured by Kapp Records, Inc., New York" on two lines in small caps. The stereo version (far left) had "STEREO" around the edge on either side, just below the medallions, while the mono versions had this area blank (near left). Promotional labels were white with black print (near left). This label was used for the first two dozen releases.
Starting with Kapp Medallion ML/MS-7525, the label changed to a black label with silver print, with a thin blue ring at the approximate place the ridge was in the pressing. Outside the ring at the top was "KAPP MEDALLION," with "Kapp" in red and "Medallion" in orange. Between the two words was a gold medallion with a Roman bust on it. In tiny letters at the bottom of the label was "Manufactured by Kapp Records, Inc., New York" in small caps. The stereo version (near left) had a large "STEREO" at the bottom, while the mono version (far left) had that area blank.
