Philles Album Discography
By David Edwards and Mike Callahan
Last update: July 20, 2003

Philles was formed In late 1961 by Phil Spector and Lester Sill. The name Philles is a combination of Phil and Les(ter). Phil Spector purchased Lester Sill's interest in September of 1962 and became the sole owner. Philles had an unprecedented run of hits between 1962 and 1966. When his most ambitious production of "River Deep - Mountain High" by Ike and Tina Turner failed to chart higher than number 88 in the United States, Spector lost interest in Philles and shortly after that the label closed down.

Early Philles labels were light blue with black print (far left), while later labels were yellow and red with either red (near left) or black print (see PHLP-4011 below for an example of the black print version). Canadian pressings had a black label with silver print.
