Robin Hood/Mother Goose Album Discography

This particular Robin Hood Records is a children's label, not the pop/doo-wop Robin Hood Records of 1619 Broadway, NYC, run by Leo Rogers (and co-owned by Louis Prima, Leo Rogers, and Milton Ross), which started in 1950. To our knowledge, that Robin Hood label did not issue any albums. An example of their 78 label is shown at right. 45s were issued on a different color label (black with silver print) with the same design.

This Robin Hood Records started in 1956 as a subsidiary of Hollywood Records of New York City, run by Benjamin Lowe. It was originally part of Paramount Enterprises, located at 383 Concord Avenue in New York City. Robin Hood issued both LPs and sets of 78s and 45s. They put out 13 albums, and an additional children's album called The Children's Hour on Hollywood itself.

Sometime in 1960, the label was sold to the Bihari Brothers recording empire based in California, which included Modern, Crown, RPM, Riviera, and others. The Biharis reissued the Robin Hood albums on their own Robin Hood label (the RH-10 series), maintaining the "arrow logo" used by Hollywood. The address on the back of the Bihari Robin Hood jackets was 5810 So. Normandie Ave., Los Angeles, California. This second incarnation of Robin Hood Records issued 24 albums (RH-10 to RH-33) between 1960 and about 1963. Later, the Biharis also had a label called Mother Goose Records, which put out a series of 2-LP sets, mostly reissues of the Robin Hood albums.

These same recordings also showed up on Heidi Ho Records (A Division of Sutton Enterprises, Beverly Hills, Calif.) and Moppet Records in the 1960s. The Moppet Records label that reissued the Robin Hood masters in the 1960s is apparently unrelated to Lew Chudd's Moppet label from 1953.

The Robin Hood/Hollywood label had the label name at the top surrounded by musical notes. The yellow label used for 78s is shown at far left, while the red label with gold print used for 33-1/3rpm albums is shown at near left (some labels were purple with gold print). At the bottom of the 78 label is a small crown with "Paramount Enterprises," the logo of the owner of the label.
After sale to the Bihari Brothers, the Robin Hood label (far left) was pink with red print, with the Robin Hood arrow logo at the top. It had the usual "LONG PLAYING 33 1/3" on the left side and "33 1/3 HIGH FIDELITY" on the right, as did the other Bihari labels. After the original albums were reissued, the logo was eventually changed on the record jackets to a round logo with a drawing of Robin Hood inside. This new logo eventually made its way to the labels (near right) after all the old label blanks were used up. Even later, yellow labels were used with red print and the same design with the drawing of Robin Hood logo.
