Warwick Album Discography

Warwick was a division of United Telefilm Records, a Canadian company. Warwick was established in 1959 and was active until it filed for bankruptcy in 1962; it issued at least 49 albums and probably more. The President of the company was orchestra leader Morty Craft. During the 1950s, Morty Craft was an A&R man for ABC-Paramount, MGM and Mercury Records. During this time. he owned many record labels based in New York, among them Bruce, Craft, Most, Stere-O-Craft, Do-Re-Me, Holiday, Lance, Marble, Melba, Rapid, Saxony, Scope, Selma, and Tel. The following discography covers the Warwick Record Label.

Of primary interest to rock and roll collectors are the two albums by Johnny and the Hurricanes, the Faye Adams album which is has a re-recording of her hit "Shake a Hand" on it, the Shirley and Lee album which has a re-recording of their hit "Let the Good Times Roll" on it, the Norman Petty-produced albums by the Fireballs and String-A-Longs, an album by the Halos, the two albums by Bob Crewe, later producer of the Four Seasons hits, and the five various artists albums of R&B and rock and roll.

The first Warwick label has an off-white color with a green spot around the center hole, above the center hole was a crest made up of a green shield with a black "W", two horses of each side and an black banner under the shield with "WARWICK" on it, there were also 4 blue circles fanning out to the right side of the label and 4 yellow circles fanning out to the left side. The stereo label was very similar to the monaural label except there is no green spot in the center, this was replaced with a blue spot to the right of the center hole with 4 blue concentric circles around it, and to the left of the center hole was a yellow spot 4 with yellow concentric circles around it. Later issues have a off-white label with the Warwick logo above the center hole in black, there is no color on the label. The equivalent stereo issues used a purple or blue label with silver print, the Warwick logo above the center hole in silver, color rings are omitted. In addition to this label white label promos were also issued which omitted the colors.

To designate stereo issues an ST is added after the label number, for example W2001 became W2001ST in stereo. We have little information on which of the Warwick albums were issued in stereo. Where there is an "ST" after the number in the discography below, the album is known to have been issued in stereo. We believe the various artists albums, and the Halos album were released in mono only. We would appreciate any additional information.

We would appreciate any additions or corrections to this discography. Just send them to us via e-mail. Both Sides Now Publications is an information web page. We are not a catalog, nor can we provide the records listed below. We have no association with Warwick Records (current address: 345 W. 58th Street, Suite 15N, New York, NY 10019). Should you be interested in acquiring albums listed in this discography (which are all out of print), we suggest you see our Frequently Asked Questions page and follow the instructions found there. DLP 25463 - Matilda - String-A-Longs [1964] After Warwick went under, Norman Petty signed the String-A-Longs to Dot Records. Their first release used eight of the tracks from the Warwick album along with a few new songs. The stereo on this album is very strange, with abrupt balance changes even though the master is true stereo. Some tracks sound like they have tracks added, much as Petty was prone to do later with the Buddy Holly material. If you want these in stereo, get the Ace (UK) CD listed below. My Blue Heaven (S)/Brass Buttons (S)/Are You Lonesome Tonight (S)/Torquay (S)/Summertime (S)/Panic Button (E)//Matilda (S)/Nearly Sunrise (S)/Walk Don't Run (E)/Harbor Lights (S)/Perfidia (E)/Bulldog (S)

EMI/HIS MASTER'S VOICE (UK)
CLP 3562 - The Best of Andy Stewart - Andy Stewart [1966] Several of Stewart's 45s, notable the minor hit "Donald Where's Your Troosers?", never made it to Warwick LPs. This LP of his greatest hits, issued in England in the mid-1960s, contains much of his early Warwick material, including the "Scottish Soldier" flip side, "The Muckin' O' Geordie's Byre." It is not known whether this LP was issued in stereo. Campbeltown Loch/Mary Mack/A Scottish Soldier/The Girl From Glasgow Toon/The Highlandman's Umbrella/I'm Off To Bonnie Scotland/The Battle's O'er//Scotland Yet/Dr. Findlay/Farewell! 51st Farewell/The Muckin' O' Geordie's Byre/Ho Ro My Nut Brown Maiden/Donald Where's Your Troosers?/Tunes Of Glory

RCA (Canada)
KXL2-0384 - Sing A Song Of Scotland - Andy Stewart [1979] (2 LP set) This is a series of medlies, 100 songs in all, of "Scotland's Favourite Songs." The album is forgettable, but the interesting thing is that the copyright and production notices are "1979 Warwick Records."
