Warwick Album Discography

Warwick was a division of United Telefilm Records, a Canadian company. Warwick was established in 1959 and was active until it filed for bankruptcy in 1962; it issued at least 49 albums and probably more. The President of the company was orchestra leader Morty Craft. During the 1950s, Morty Craft was an A&R man for ABC-Paramount, MGM and Mercury Records. During this time. he owned many record labels based in New York, among them Bruce, Craft, Most, Stere-O-Craft, Do-Re-Me, Holiday, Lance, Marble, Melba, Rapid, Saxony, Scope, Selma, and Tel. The following discography covers the Warwick Record Label.

Fourteen of the Warwick albums, more than a quarter of their total output, are of interest to rock and roll collectors. There are two albums by Johnny and the Hurricanes, a Faye Adams album which is has a re-recording of her hit "Shake a Hand" on it, a Shirley and Lee album which has a re-recording of their hit "Let the Good Times Roll" on it, the Norman Petty-produced albums by the Fireballs and String-A-Longs, an album by the Halos, and two albums by Bob Crewe (later producer of the Four Seasons hits), and the five various artists albums of R&B and rock and roll. Aside from these, the rest of the Warwick catalog is made up of obscure easy listening fare as well as some jazz albums.

After the bankruptcy in 1962, the Warwick masters reverted to a different company who used the label name. Their main products were television advertised albums during the 1970s and 1980s, as well as, eventually, CDs. We have not included their discography here.

We have some information on which of the Warwick albums were issued in stereo, but not information for all catalog numbers. An "ST" after the mono number in the discography below indicates the album is known to have been issued in stereo. Many more mono copies were issued than stereo copies of each catalog number, except for the 5000 series, which featured stereo. We would appreciate any additional information.

The Warwick mono label (far left) had an off-white color with a green spot around the center hole. Above the center hole was a crest made up of a green shield with a black "W", two horses of each side and an black banner under the shield with "WARWICK" on it. There were also 4 blue circles fanning out to the right side of the label and 4 yellow circles fanning out to the left side. This label was used throughout the 2000 and 5000 series. The original stereo label (near left), used to about 2034, was very similar to the monaural label except there is no green spot in the center; this was replaced with a blue spot to the right of the center hole with 4 blue concentric circles around it, and a yellow spot to the left of the center hole with yellow concentric circles around it.
Several reissues use a stereo label like the original mono label (far left), but with a stereo designation. Starting about 2035, and for the 5000 series, Warwick used a purple label with silver print (near left) for the stereo issues.
The promotional (deejay) labels were white with black print.

We would appreciate any additions or corrections to this discography. Just send them to us via e-mail. Both Sides Now Publications is an information web page. DLP 25463 - Matilda - String-A-Longs [1964] After Warwick went under, Norman Petty signed the String-A-Longs to Dot Records. Their first release used eight of the tracks from the Warwick album along with a few new songs. The stereo on this album is very strange, with abrupt balance changes even though the master is true stereo. Some tracks sound like they have tracks added, much as Petty was prone to do later with the Buddy Holly material. If you want these in stereo, get the Ace (UK) CD listed below.
