Hurrah Records was a
division of the K.M. Corporation, which originally was in Freeport, Long Island, NY. The K.M. Corporation
was one of the companies used by Pickwick International to distribute their records. K.M. also was listed
as distributing the International Award Series label. The product issued on Hurrah was made up of
reissues of earlier albums on Pickwick's other labels, particularly Design and International Award. All the
issues on Hurrah were released in 1962 and 1963 initially, and all used a generic jacket back (see right)
which had a discography of the first 24 albums. Mono albums had a mono discography (using the H-
prefix), while stereo albums had a stereo discography using the HS- prefix.
Near the bottom of the generic jacket back was a small "Printed in U.S.A." on the left and "Copyright
K.M. Corp., Freeport, N.Y." on the right side. Later, in more bold print, there was "IPB" under the "Printed
in U.S.A., and on the right side in bold print, "A PRODUCT OF KIMBERLY RECORD CORP., L.I.C. 1,
N.Y." This was the same address as Pickwick International. The quality of the record jacket took a
serious nosedive when this occurred. Kimberly was eventually sold to Precision Radiation Instruments
(parent label of Tops, Golden Tone, etc.), and perhaps it was this sale that precipitated the decline in
quality (although the labels still said Pickwick even after the change on the jacket).
The first Hurrah label was white with black print, with a multicolor logo above the center hole. Later, the
label was simplified to white with red print, with an all-red logo. For both versions of the label, there was
a large lowercase "h" with an "r" inside the legs of the "h" in the upper right quarter of the label. To the
left of the logo, in lower case, it said "hurrah records." Below this was either "STEREO" or "33 1/3 RPM"
depending on whether it was a stereo of mono record, respectively. Around the bottom of the label it
said, "PICKWICK INTERNATIONAL INC. - LONG PLAYING - UNBREAKABLE."
