Since Morris Levy, the owner of Roulette, was also the owner of several nightclubs in New York, it
was a natural for him to get the jazz musicians to record for Roulette. As one might expect, the lineup
was strong, with Count Basie, Maynard Ferguson, and even Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong. The
52000 "Birdland" Series ran from 1958 to 1968, and when Roulette changed numbering systems for the
pop series, the jazz series also changed. In 1969, it became the 5000 series.
