Sun Label Album Discography, Part 1:
The Original Albums

by David Edwards and Mike Callahan
Last update: September 5, 2009

The original incarnation of Sun Records issued a total of twelve albums, seven of which were by Johnny Cash. Of the remaining five, two were by Jerry Lee Lewis, one each by Roy Orbison and Carl Perkins, and one was a various artists compilation. All were issued in mono only, although reissues sometimes had a stereo designation on the cover with a mono record inside.

The Sun label was yellow with brown printing. "SUN" above the center hole with alternating yellow and light brown rays coming from the center hole and fanning out to the top 1/3 of the label behind it. Around the perimeter of label are music notes. At the bottom of the label is a yellow "MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE" in a brown curvilinear oval. Below this is "A PRODUCT OF SUN RECORD CO., INC. - MEMPHIS, TENN.".
