Secular distribution of Reunion records, through regular record stroes, record clubs, etc., began with
Word's agreement - starting in early 1985 and ending in late 1990 - with A&M to distribute Word and
Word's distributed labels through secular channels. When the A&M contract expired, Word signed with
Sony/Epic for distribution, but Reunion opted for Geffen Records.
Geffen immediately reissued much of the Reunion back catalog, including many items on CD for the first
time. In addition, Michael W. Smith's reissues were also issued on the Geffen label itself, marketing
them as mainstream pop. Reunion also was able to obtain the Amy Grant Myrrh back catalog for
reissue.
In 1993, Reunion was partly sold to BMG, and their secular distribution changed to RCA, along with yet
another set of new catalog numbers for back and concurrent issues. The Amy Grant back catalog was
also reissued on RCA as part of the arrangement. In 1994, RCA started a separate series for Reunion.
By 1996, BMG purchased the remainder of the label, and moved Reunion under its Arista label.
This didn't last long, as BMG sold Reunion to Zomba Entertainment in 1996. Zomba set Reunion up as
part of a new Christian-based distributorship, Provident. Current Reunion albums were again
renumbered, and a major part of the back catalog reissued with new catalog numbers.
