In 1955, Columbia discontinued the CL-6000 series and started a new series (CL-2500) that they
termed the "House Party" series. Along with the new series, each of which featured a large "House
Party" logo in the upper left corner of the jacket, Columbia adopted a new logo and a new label design.
The old "note-and-microphone" logo was replaced by the "CBS Eye" logo, supposedly a depiction of a
TV camera.
The label used for the CL-2500 series was red with black print, with "COLUMBIA" in white serif lettering around the top edge. Around the edge of the new label, three on the left and three on the right, were six of the new "camera eye" logos, causing this label to be known as the "Six Eye" label. Near the bottom of the logo, in white, was the Lp logo. Around the bottom of the label was the usual trade mark fine print. |
