Columbia made a minor change to their stereo label starting with the albums released in July, 1963:
they added two arrows to the stereo legend on the bottom. Because this change was made at a specific
date instead of a specific catalog number, determining which albums had what label variation is somewhat
confusing. For that reason, we have noted the original labels (with or without arrows) for the albums up to
CS-8841 (these were verified with original albums). After that point, most of the releases had the arrows,
but a few later catalog numbered albums were released before July, 1963, and are noted as having the
old labels without arrows.
The mono releases on this page used the first variation of the "two eye" label (far left), which was red with a white "COLUMBIA" at the top bending around the top edge. Near the bottom of the label, in small black letters, was "GUARANTEED HIGH FIDELITY." Promotional albums either had a white label with black print (near left), or were indicated with a sticker on the label and a stamp on the record jacket back. | ||
The stereo counterpart for releases up to about CS 8830 (far left) was similar, but the black lettering near the bottom was larger and said "360 SOUND" STEREO "360 SOUND." In July, 1963, at Columbia added two arrows to the black legend at the bottom of the label for stereo releases (near left). |
