In 1955, Columbia started changing their logo on album covers. It had long been just the "Lp" in a circle,
but in late 1955, it started sometimes adding "A High Fidelity Recording" above the circle, and surrounding
it in a box. By the start of 1956 (see, for example, CL-866 and later albums) the logo changed to a long
oblong box, the lower part having the circle-Lp logo within the CBS Eye logo. This changeover happened
gradually, as some of the later covers had already been printed before the change was made.
Albums on this page had the "six eye" label, with the deep groove (far left). Promotional albums had a white label with red print (near left). |
