Columbia Consolidated Series Album Discography, Part 1In late 1969, Columbia decided to consolidate all their different labels and distributed labels into one
numerical series, the 30000 Series. The catalog prefixes denoted the labels, with C=Columbia, E=Epic,
F=Fillmore, H=Harmony, L=Columbia Legacy, M=Columbia Masterworks, S=Masterworks
Soundtracks/Original Cast recordings, Y=Columbia Odyssey, and Z=various distributed labels. G was
used to designate a double LP. There was often an additional letter indicating a price code (e.g., KC for
a deluxe priced LP on Columbia) or a number indicating the number of LPs in a set (e.g., M5 for a 5-LP
set on Columbia Masterworks).
Their handling of multi-LP sets was curious. The basic multi-LP set was given a catalog number (with a
G prefix for a double album, for example), but each individual album in the set was given its own catalog
number with the usual label prefix. In the early days (up until 30138), the individual LPs numbers were
nowhere near the album set catalog number (e.g., set G 30008 had individual discs C 30141 and C
30142). A bit of logic (sanity?) eventually prevailed, as later on in the series (by 30217) the individual
albums were numbered in sequence with the set catalog number.
Columbia Consolidated issues between 30001 and 30199 were issued between 1969 and 1970.

|
The Columbia label (far left) was red with black print with the label name in yellow lettering around the edge. Columbia Masterworks (near left) was similar but with a grey background. |
|
|
Columbia Odyssey (far left) was also similar, but with an orange background with black lettering around the edge. The Harmony label (near left) was light brown with black print and a white logo at the top, and some small "fine print" in white around the bottom. |
|
|
The Epic label (far left) was yellow with black print, the same label that had been used for Epic releases during most of the 1960s. The Fillmore label (near left) was yellow, with a light yellow at top gradually deepening to orange on the bottom. It had black print and a pink logo with a representation of a suspension bridge in blue. |
|
The Barnaby label (left) was light blue with black (and some gold) print. The Barnaby logo resembling a music clef was at left in brown print on a white background. |
