The Original Blues Classics label, or OBC, was established by Fantasy Records in 1984 as a vehicle to reissue the many blues albums under their control after they had purchased the Prestige, Bluesville, Riverside, Milestone, Tru-Sound, and Good Time Jazz labels. They made some of these classic blues albums widely available on high quality reissues that were replicas of the original albums, even down to the labels. As such, the OBC series did not have a label of its own, but used the label for the particular album being reissued. All of the vinyl albums up to OBC-540 have been reissued on CD. At that point, vinyl was temporarily discontinued. In 1995, Fantasy started issuing 180-gram vinyl versions of many of the CD-only offerings. The series ended in 2001, but may be reactivated in the future.
