The Group label was a subsidiary of London Records. It appears to have been created solely to
issue a various artists compilation in 1963. The songs included were former hits taken from labels that
London distributed.
The album design itself was quite basic, with a generic label with minimal graphics, and a back slick that
was identical to the front. There were no liner notes or other identifying features.
Although that album, Group of Goldies, was given a stereo release number, we have never seen
a stereo copy, and there is no indication that it was ever actually issued in stereo. There is no stereo
pasteover on the front slick, for example, and the UK version of the album [London American HAU 8086]
was issued in mono only. If stereo copies exist, they would be expected to be rechanneled, based on
the similar album, All American Hits, released later on the Parrot label.
The Group Records label was dark purple with silver print. |
