Trend Records was established in 1953 in Los Angeles California. It was located at 650 North Sepulveda Blvd. The President of the company was Albert Marx and the Musical Director was Dave Pell. The label recorded jazz, rhythm and blues and pop.

The albums focused on jazz, with an EP series closely following the album output. Although the material on the label was well liked by both disc jockeys and fans, the sales just didn't cover expenses. The label had no chart singles or albums at all.

By spring, 1955, Trend was bankrupt, but there was quite a bit of interest in buying the masters. Before that was done, however, both Capitol and Columbia held mechanical liens against the label's assets, due to pressing records for which they had yet to be paid. Bidding on the masters ensued, and the label was eventually acquired by Kapp Records in February, 1956, and the offices moved to New York City. Kapp reissued many of the Trend album masters on Kapp in 1956. Kapp also reactivated the label for a short time in December, 1957, but no known new albums were released.

The Trend label was gold with black print. The same label was used for the LPs (far left) and the EPs and 45s (near left).
Trend also issued 78s using the same label design (far left). Promotional issues used a white label with black print; the label also used special sleeves (near left).
