The Country Music Association created the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1961. Two years later they announced that they would be building a building to house the Country Music Hall of Fame on Music Row in Nashville. As part of raising funds to build the building, CMA put out an album in 1965, then another in 1966. The second was reissued a short time later with a new cover. The albums were offered by mail order from The Country Music Hall of Fame, Box 1700, Beverly Hills, CA. Price of each album was $2.00, with an additional $1.00 for non-US orders. Artists and record companies waived customary royalty fees as a donation to the campaign.

Construction on the $300,000 office building and museum commenced in March, 1966, and the museum opened in February, 1967.

The CMA label was black and blue. All songs on the albums were mono, and the albums were not banded, i.e., there was no visible separation between songs. The records had a Columbia Special Products matrix number.
