Mountain Dew was a country subsidiary of Synthetic Plastics Company (SPC) of Newark, New
Jersey. For the most part, they issued albums with hits of the day sung by artists other than on the hit
singles (most of these albums are by the Nashville Country Singers). They also leased some of their
albums from the Mercury/Smash and Chart labels
The label started in 1967, about the time the industry was switching over to all stereo releases.
Apparently, there were no mono releases on the label. The last catalog number for this series was in
1974, but SPC has been reissuing these albums both on vinyl and CD right up to the current time, as
well as albums from other SPC labels under the Mountain Dew imprint.
S-7021 and S-7023-7025 were probably scheduled to be reissues from other SPC labels (as was
S-7022).
The Mountain Dew label was a pink color most of the time (far left), but the color could vary. Labels with purple color (center left) were also known, as well as a red color for reissues (near left). |
