The Peter Pan label was a major and long lasting children's imprint of the Synthetic Plastics
Company of Newark, NJ.
It was founded in 1948 by brothers Daniel and Louis Kasen. The first records were in a series of 45s, 45
EPs, and 78s, mostly in red plastic vinyl. Each record had a custom label related to the music on the
disc. This practice continued when the company started with LP records many years later.
Overall, Peter Pan put out many more singles and EPs than albums. Release dates are approximate.
The 5000 and 8000 series used a yellow label with a reclining figure of Peter Pan at the left side of the label (far left). Stereo versions of the 8000 series were yellow with a drawing of Peter Pan at the right side of the label (center left). At near left, the yellow label used for the 500 series of book and record.
Near the end of the BR-500 series, a number of releases formed a short series of "No More: Welcome to the Human Race" albums. These had special labels as shown at far left. The 8000 series eventually turned to individual labels which featured the subject of the album (center left). The 1100 series also featured these individual labels (near left).
Special labels were used for the Romper Room releases (far left) and the Viva Allegre series (center left). A generic label was occasionally used in the 1970s as shown at near left. This label was seen in gray, green, or beige.
Labels for the TAS-12000 Peter Pan Artists Series were individual. The TAS-12109 label is at far left, the TAS-12114 label, issued on the Waylo label, at center left, and the TAS-12116 label at near left. |

Peter Pan Artists Series: This was a series where Peter Pan attempted to get into pop music. The series numbering system had both 7" and 12" records, with the numbers linked. For example, TAS-109 was a 45 by the Commander Cody Band, while TAS-12109 was an album by the same artists, one that contained the single. Not all of the TAS-100 singles had album counterparts, so not all numbers in the 12000 series were used. The series also included some 12" disco singles with the prefix "33", for example TAS-33119.
