Power Records was a subsidiary of Peter Pan Records, one of the Synthetic Plastics Company
labels. There were four distinct series over the more than a decade Power was pressing vinyl.
The first, which was issued in 1965-68, was what we call the "Horror" series, featuring Frankie Stein &
His Ghouls plus an album of Halloween sounds.
The second, the "Apple Honey" series, lasted fron 1966-1968. It featured sound-alike artists singing or
playing the tunes of the day.
Thirdly, there was a "R&B/Gospel" series, which was relatively short with only a few more than a dozen
releases. This took place from 1968-1969.
Lastly, the "Superhero 8100" series was shared with Peter Pan Records starting in 1974 and active to
1977. This featured superhero stories from comic books as well as releases from TV shows or movies.
The D/DS 330 "Ghost" series used a black label with creepy hands (far left), except for D/DS-343, which used a pink label (near left).
The "Apple Honey" series (393-421) used a red label with the Apple Honey logo at left of the center hole (far left). The 9000 series used a purple label (near left).
Near the end of the 9000 series, the label used a slightly different design, with the Power logo at the left side instead of the top (far left). The 8100 series used individual yellow labels (near left), which are illustrated in the discography below. |
