Spin-O-Rama was originally a budget label subsidiary of Synthetic Plastics Company of Newark, NJ.
It was founded in 1959 and ran under the SPC ownership until 1961, when the label was sold (along
with the Parade label) to Premier Albums, Inc. of New York City. Premier immediately got busy
remastering some and reissuing a great number of Parade and Spin-O-Rama LPs under the Premier
banner.
As was common with many SPC labels, a bit of triskaidekaphobia shows up here, as the catalog
numbers ending with "13" are not issued.
Release dates are approximate.
The earliest releases usually had black and silver labels with no graphics (far left), or in some cases a green label with no graphics (center left). By the time the 3000 series got underway in earnest, the well-known yellow Spin-O-Rama label was used (near left).
Reissues sometimes used a yellow label with no graphics (far left), or the Premier reissue black label (center left). The workhorse Spin-O-Rama mono yellow label after the sale to Premier is shown at near left, with the Premier notation above the horizontal bar.
Stereo variations of the Premier yellow bar label are shown at left. |
