The RCA-Victor Labels...
RCA and the labels it distributed (Calendar/Kirshner, Colgems) released quite a few stereo singles during
1968-1970. The thing these labels have in common is they all started a new series for stereo, preferring
to leave the old series running concurrently for mono releases.

RCA-VICTOR RCA-Victor was relatively late in getting into the stereo-only singles game, but when they did, they got in in a big way. The 74-0100 series of singles was apparently started as a vehicle for stereo singles. It was started in February, 1969, and ran concurrently with the 47-9000 series (later, the 48-0100 series), which was all mono. Labels in the 74-0100 series were orange (light orange to almost red, see left), with promotional copies primarily having a yellow label, but occasionally having pale green or light blue labels. There were 300+ releases in the 74-0100 series from February, 1969, until the end of 1970. We have listed only the chart hits and known artists here, but even the obscure artists on the 74-0100 series were issued in stereo, so being in the 74- series (vs. the 47- series) makes it a good guess the single was stereo even if you can't find the individual record listed.

CALENDAR/KIRSHNER Don Kirshner started his Calendar label in late 1967, the first five singles on the 63-1000 series being for Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme in various combinations. In the summer of 1968, he began issuing singles by the cartoon group "The Archies." By mid-1969, the Archies had become popular enough that someone noticed a conflict in label names, so in the fall the name of the US label was changed to Kirshner. The name remained Calendar in the UK. Calendar's first dabble with stereo came in June, 1969. Kirshner started a new series, the 63-5000 series, and most of these records were stereo. The Teresa Graves single (63-5001) may not have gone beyond the promo stage. Along with this new stereo venture, some of the copies of "Sugar, Sugar" by the Archies were pressed in stereo, but not marked as such.
Calendar 63-1008 - 6/69 - Archies - Sugar, Sugar/Melody Hill [mono - see note 1] Calendar 63-5001 - 6/69 - Teresa Graves - A Time For Us/We're On Our Way Kirshner 63-5002 - 11/69 - Archies - Jingle Jangle/Justine Kirshner 63-5003 - 2/70 - Archies - Who's Your Baby? Calendar 63-1008, the Archies' "Sugar Sugar"/"Melody Hill" was issued in mono. It was reissued on the Kirshner label with the same catalog number with the label having the mono master number. Some copies played in stereo and can be identified by the stereo master number (XYKS-3908) in the dead wax. Later pressings on the Kirshner Gold Standard series [Kirshner 447-0930] were stereo. 2. The Calendar/Kirshner singles from 63-1001 to 63-1010 were all issued in mono. The label name changed for 63-1009. This series changed to stereo with 63-1012 in 1972 (possibly with 63-1011, a 45 by Carr & Co., but we have not seen that disc). 3. The 63-5000 series was set up for stereo singles. 63-5004 and 63-5010 were not issued. 4. Although the label of "Who's Your Baby" states stereo, all copies are apparently mono. 5. Mono master numbers began with "#YKM-" while stereo masters began with "#YKS-", with "#" representing the year of mastering as per RCA mastering system. #=X for 1969, #=Z for 1970.
CHART Chart was a country label, originally distributed by RCA. In February, 1969, like other RCA labels, they established a new series for stereo single releases, the 59-5000 series (mono was issued on the 59-1000 series). This lasted until April, 1969, when they went to independent distribution and the "59" prefix was dropped. From that point, both mono and stereo singles were issued on the 5000 series. By July, 1969, a new "CH-" prefix was added.
