The Scepter Labels...

Scepter and it's subsidiary Wand, along with distributed labels Bamboo, Bunky, and Pepper, did not release stereo singles from 1968-70. Both Scepter and Wand began issuing mono/stereo promos in 1971 and commercial stereo singles in 1972.

SCEPTER

Scepter Records was an independent New York label. They began issuing singles in December, 1958, and discontinued after May, 1972.

We found no stereo singles, either commercial or promotional, between 1968 and 1970; even the double- A side promos were mono on both sides.

Scepter began issuing mono/stereo and stereo promos and commercial stereo singles in 1971. Commercial stereo singles were not always marked as such but could be identified by a stereo master number, i.e., S-61580 vs 61580.



WAND

Wand was a Scepter Records subsidiary that issued singles from 1959 to 1976. We found no stereo singles, either commercial or promotional, from 1968-1970. They began issuing mono/stereo promos in 1971, and commercial stereo singles in 1972.



BAMBOO

Bamboo Records was based in St. Louis. They began issuing singles in March, 1968, and discontinued by mid-1971. They were distributed by Scepter.

We found no stereo singles, either commercial or promotional, from 1968 until they shut down in 1971.



BUNKY

Bunky was Bill "Bunky" Sheppard's label. It operated between 1967 and 1990, although it was primarily active between August, 1967 and the end of 1969. After their first single, "Get On Up" by the Esquires, which was also their biggest hit, they were distributed by Scepter Records, an arrangement that lasted until October, 1969. At that point, they temporarily abandoned issuing singles, but did put one out in 1976 and one in 1990.

We found no stereo singles, either stock or promo, until 1976.



PEPPER

Pepper was a Memphis-based label that operated between 1958 and 1969. We found no stereo singles, either promotional or commercial, for this label.



SCRAM

Scram Records was for a time distributed by Scepter. It featured labels of different colors, including yellow, green, light blue, and dark blue. We found no stereo singles for this label.
