Atco was a subsidiary of Atlantic.
The first Atco label was yellow with black printing. "ATCO" is in white letters above the center hole.
Behind the "A" in Atco is a drawing of a music lyre in black. This label was the original issue on records
33-101 to at least 33-138. Early stereo albums on Atco used the same label, with "STEREO" added. The
first record jackets, however, did not have the usual movable cover slick that could be moved up
(showing "MONO" at the bottom) or down (showing "STEREO" at the top). Instead, the jackets for the
stereo records were identical to the mono jackets, but were stamped with a stereo stamp in gold ink.
The second Atco label
was gold on top and gray on the bottom with black printing, this label was used for monaural albums.
"ATCO" was printed in gold on a white band that is slightly above the center line (the "AT" on one side
and the "CO" on the other side of the center hole. Stereo issues had purple on top and brown/orange on
the bottom with black printing. "ATCO" was printed in brown/orange on a white band that is slightly
above the center line. Stereo was printed left of center in white print. There was considerable color
variation in both the monaural and stereo labels. The labels were used from 33-139 to approximately 33
-265. A slight variation was made in stereo labels in mid-1968 when the word "STEREO" to the left of the
center hole was printed in black instead of white. Promotional labels were white with the same graphics
in black.
