Kapp Records was an independent record label started in 1953 by David Kapp in New York
City. David Kapp was the brother of Jack Kapp (who had set up American Decca Records in
1934). David Kapp founded his own label after stints with Decca Records and RCA Victor
Records. Kapp licensed its records to London Records (British Decca) for release in the
UK. The sales manager for Kapp was Randall Wood, A & R was by David Hill and Dick Wolfe.
The label recorded pop, classical, jazz, country and western, children's and folk music.
In December, 1967, David Kapp sold his label to MCA Inc. and the label was placed under UNI Records
management but stayed independent for most purposes. Kapp was consolidated with MCA's other
record labels in February, 1973, when MCA Records discontinued Kapp, Uni, Decca, and Vocalion, and
made Coral a budget imprint..
