Mercury Album Discography, Part 2:Unlike the A-10 series, this series was a direct counterpart to the Mercury MG-25000 10-inch LP
series (except for the first catalog number, which does not have an LP counterpart). Both the A-1000
and the MG-25000 versions of the album were released at roughly the same time, with the A-1000
version having three 45s (and therefore usually two less songs overall). Although we have not
examined the cover art for this series, it would be expected to closely resemble the MG-25000 series
cover art for the corresponding issue.
Interestingly, the first number in this series, A-1000, while not having an LP counterpart, was released in
78rpm, unlike the rest of the series. This leads to speculation that the series was not originally planned
to mirror the MG-25000 series, and indeed did not do so with any regularity until MG-25042 in mid 1950.
