By 1969, Columbia was enthusiastically getting into releasing double-LP sets, of which there are many
on this page. They were also now into heavy rock, with artists like Al Kooper and Mike Bloomfield.
By April, 1969, Tony Bennett was on Volume 4 of his Greatest Hits packages. MGM Records in
1973 would issue an album called Greatest Hits, Volume 7. He certainly seems to have the world's
record for most Greatest Hits volumes.
After welcoming back Johnny Mathis in 1967 from his time with Mercury Records, Columbia reissued two
albums of Johnny Mathis' Mercury material in July, 1969 (People and The Impossible
Dream), and surprisingly, both charted.
The one mono release on this page used the "two eye" label with the white "MONO" at the bottom (far left). The stereo labels on this page were the "two eye" labels with "360 SOUND" STEREO "360 SOUND" with two arrows flanking the white legend at the bottom (near left). Promotional copies had a timing strip glued to the front cover, but the regular stereo record inside. |
