Design Album Discography, Part 8:
Christmas Albums

By Mike Callahan, David Edwards, and Patrice Eyries
Last update: December 20, 2003

Perhaps there was no other series of albums on the Design label that was more typical of the operational philosophy of Pickwick. The same albums were endlessly recycled, not only by using a different cover each year, but by peddling the same albums on Design, Grand Prix, Hurrah, International Award, and Bravo, often using different album titles and artist attribution to obscure those facts.

The labels for the Christmas Series ran the gamut of Design labels over the years, with the exception of also including a white version of the Design red label, shown here at left. Jacket backs reflected the years they were reissued. Early backs, such as on X1, were typical of the liner notes backs used in the late 1950s. Reissues in the early 1960s used a generic back with a Christmas foliage around the edge and a partial discography, which was replaced by a generic back with some generic words and a drawing of carolers. By 1968, the back had changed to red with white print, as shown in the scan at left.
